Layton Ridge Implants and Oral Surgery
August always has a certain energy to it here in northern Utah — the tail end of summer freedom bumping up against the excitement and nerves of a new school year. That transition is something I genuinely look forward to witnessing every year, and this past August was no exception. The Clearfield area community showed up in full force at Layton Ridge Oral Surgery, and it was a privilege to serve so many neighbors during such a meaningful time of year.
This month, we welcomed 35 patients from the Clearfield area, and the procedure mix told a very familiar late-summer story. Wisdom tooth extractions led the way, accounting for 21 procedures, which comes as no surprise. Every August, we see a surge in families scheduling these appointments before students head off to college or back to high school. There’s a practical wisdom (no pun intended) to handling extractions during summer break — recovery time is easier to manage when you’re not juggling a full class schedule. Paired with those, we performed 18 surgical extractions, addressing teeth that required a higher level of care due to impaction, root complexity, or surrounding bone involvement. Together, these procedures made up the heart of our August work, and I’m proud of how smoothly our team navigated such a busy volume.
Beyond extractions, we also placed 3 dental implants this month. Implants represent one of the most meaningful long-term investments a person can make in their oral health, and it’s always rewarding to begin that process with patients who are ready to restore both function and confidence. Additionally, we completed 2 oral biopsies — a reminder that oral surgery isn’t only about teeth. Monitoring the soft tissues of the mouth for any unusual changes is an essential part of comprehensive oral health care, and I encourage everyone in the Clearfield community to take those concerns seriously and never hesitate to have something evaluated.
From a seasonal standpoint, August is genuinely one of our most community-connected months. Back-to-school season creates a natural window where families are already thinking proactively about health — physicals, vaccinations, dental checkups. Oral surgery fits naturally into that mindset. If a teenager has been experiencing discomfort or crowding, or if an X-ray has flagged developing wisdom teeth, summer’s end is often the moment families finally make the call. We’re grateful to be the practice that Clearfield families trust when that moment arrives, and we never take that trust lightly.
I also want to gently note that oral health doesn’t pause when school starts. Whether it’s a tooth that’s been bothering someone for weeks, a soft tissue change that seems minor but lingers, or a missing tooth that’s affecting daily life, these are all worthy reasons to seek care. Waiting rarely makes things easier, and our team is here to walk alongside you through whatever you’re facing, with straightforward communication and genuinely compassionate care.
